NOVEMBER 4, 2007 - JANUARY 7, 2020

Ginsberg Cheevers-Matz peacefully moved on to another realm Tuesday morning, with the gentle assistance of his friends at Creature Comfort Holistic Veterinary Center. He loved visiting Creature Comfort, having worked there with his mom half his life. He never had a formal job description, but he got his salary in freeze-dried beef liver.
Ginsberg was a Tibetan Terrier, born on November 4, 2007 in Woodland, CA to Nonie and Barley. He had 3 brothers and 2 sisters. When he moved to Oakland to live with Jack and Kat he was only 9 weeks old. He missed his litter mates so much that for several nights after arriving he would *Howl* pitifully in the night, which is how he got his name.

He was an independent and resilient boy, and quickly took to life in Oakland, and his job at the veterinary hospital. He attended Sirius Puppy 1 and Puppy 2 classes, but he wasn't much of a scholar, preferring experiential learning. He discovered his true calling when he joined a Doggy Lama pack and started hiking with Molly. She unleashed him on the East Bay trails and introduced him to his life-long passion.

Eventually his mom left her job as a veterinary technician to be a dog walker herself, and Ginsberg got a new job directing her Blissful Beasts packs. He hiked more than any dog could hope for. He ran with Golden Retrievers, Pit Bulls, Poodles, and mutts. He loved them all. He was a dog's dog, and preferred his own species to most humans.
In the East Bay Regional Parks, Ginsberg discovered the bliss of chasing friends, eating horse poop, and rolling in stinky stuff. He had imperfect recall skills, but he appreciated a treat reward for coming back eventually.

Ginsberg bonded with his human family, and select human neighbors and friends, but he didn't trust strangers. He spent a fair bit of his life barking or growling at them to make sure they steered clear. As an old dog he mellowed out, although he still grumbled deep in his throat when unknown people walked by.

Ginsberg shared his water bowl with kitties Buzzby, Sir Purrsalot, and Earlie Girl, and Easy the Goldendoodle. He shared his toys with many of his doggy hiking pals during sleepovers when their own folks were out of town.

Ginsberg loved eating cheese sticks and steak with his dad, "noogling" on smooth cloth toys with his incisors, deconstructing fluffy toys, rocketing in the back yard, getting dirty, wearing his skull and crossbone jammies, and parading around the house with toys in his mouth while his parents gave him cheering, standing ovations.

Ginsberg Matz succumbed to hemangiosarcoma at the age of 12 years, having led a happy life. He is loved so very dearly, and sorely missed by Jack, Kat, and Easy, and many friends. He was a Very Good Boy.
